22nd Annual Sneeky Pete A tier

With great excitement I stopped by Cedarock Park in Burlington, NC on the Thursday before the 22nd Annual Sneeky Pete. I was on my way home for fall break to check out the temporary course that would be used for two rounds of the tournament on the weekend. I got a local pro, Brent Mabry, to show me around. I was certainly impressed. With a par of 66 and lots of elevation change, this course would challenge throwers in the woods and in the open. The thing I like the most about higher par courses is the strategic aspect. On some holes I would throw midrange-midrange to play safe while on others I would try to crush a drive and have a simple putter approach.

MSDGC 2007 Continued

Wow what can i say besides this was the most fun I've had all year at a tournament.  I had heard great things about the MSDGC and all my expectations were fulfilled.  I shot pretty solid the first two rounds, leaving me in a tie for 11th after two rounds.  Saturday night was awesome with poolball, the pie eating contest, and lots of free food and refreshments.  I ended up finishing in a dissappointing tie for 20th but I had a great time which is all that matters.  I also should be on the video for some good shots and some heartbreakers and bloopers.  Congrats to Cale for winning in a playoff.

MSDGC 2007

I am excited to be up here in Massachusetts to play the 2007 MSDGC.  We made the 12 hour drive on Tuesday night, leaving at 10 pm and arriving at 10 am the next morning to play a practice round on Pyramids Silver.  Eddie Ogburn and Mike Hofmann taught me how to drive stickshift on the trip up so I could contribute to the driving.  I actually played surprisingly well after the car ride, almost hitting a few aces.  We headed over to the Maple Hill course to play the long Airplanes layout.  I enjoyed this course more than Pyramids and saw lots of room for gaining or losing ground.  We're about to grab some lunch and head over to practice for the Birdie Skins qualifier on the Maple Hill Elements course.

Zebulon Cha Ching a Zing

This past weekend was one of my favorite tournaments on one of my favorite courses, Zebulon, located just 30 minutes from my house.  The field was tough and the weather was hot.  The dry huk raglan and the dry huk two tone I wore wicked sweat away no problem and my cool mesh hat shielded my eyes from the sun.  I played pretty good day one shooting a -3 and a -7 leaving me in a four way tie for 5th but on the lead card because of my second round.  I struggled to make pars in the 3rd round.  On my first ten holes I had six birdies and four bogies.  I settled down making some pars down the stretch and finished -1, although I knew that was not what I needed to stay on the lead card.  The last round I played pretty solid but not real hot like I needed to jump up some spaces.  On the final hole I threw short into a creek bed and took a circle 4 costing me one place.  I finished ninth which wasn't the top five finish I was hoping for but I still cashed.   Brian Schweberger paced the field once again with a wire to wire victory.  Next week I travel up to New York with Schwebby to play the Skylands Classic on the famed Warwick course.

1st Trip to Bowling Green

I really decided I could make it to Bowling Green the wednesday before the tournament. Having never been their before I was anxious about getting up there in time to see at least two of the four courses we would be playing in the tournament. I was able to leave early Friday morning and had a chance to play Keriakes and Hobson Grove. I hit an ace in practice on hole 1 at Keriakes. This makes the 4th state that I have aced in the first time I have played there.

The first round didn't start according to plan. It was on Hobson Grove, a tight woods course that has plenty of opportunities to shoot low. I struggled to make the birdies I needed in the better than expected weather and finished with a 53. This left me with lots of work to do to work my way up the leaderboard. The next round was at the long and open Ephram White. I had the box on our first hole and stepped up and threw a Roc straight into the chains 300' away. I birdied the next hole to open -3 after 2 holes. I ended up giving up too many bogey strokes along with 4 OB strokes that cost me a hot score but I still finished with a 52, not bad considering I was playing blind and part of the round was rainy and windy.

Buckhorn Open

This weekend, I head back to my hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina for the 6th Annual Buckhorn Open. This tournament has a history of wind and frozen precipitation. It is played at Buckhorn, a tight woods course that also features four holes along Harris Lake. I look forward to doing my best and taking out some 1000 rated players.
