2008 World Championships

This year’s Worlds in Kalamazoo, MI was nearly written before it happened.  Everything leading up to the week of the Championships was falling into place.  I felt healthy, energized, and most importantly - not rushed.  I kept my goal in focus and never lost track of it.  Even through all the interviews and the pressure that I felt  being in my hometown.  My plan was to play the courses, not the other players.  Once I had seen all the courses, I set my tournament goal to shoot a 90 - 100 under par.  I knew I was capable of this, as long as I didn’t trip over my own feet I could have a chance to win.  Even when I wasn’t winning during the week, I felt secure and didn’t lose track of my goal and tried to play as consistently and it would all work out for me in the end.  I think the extra confidence came from all the support of everyone I engaged with that week.  They would say things like, “it’s your time”, and when looking into their eyes I could tell they really believed it.  They helped me believe in myself and when times were harder and I wasn’t making the shots I had to tell myself that it was indeed “my time.”  I’d think this, take a deep breath and make the shot.  It worked like it has been all year. If you just believe and visualize it, it can and will happen.  I want to thank anyone who put me in the “believe” mindset that week.  It helped out tremendously and finally got that monkey off my back.  With a round or two to go, I really started to feel the nerves.  The pressure of the lingering World title almost broke me, but with belief and patience I pulled through.  Now I can relax and enjoy the run and see where else it may take me.
