I really decided I could make it to Bowling Green the wednesday before the tournament. Having never been their before I was anxious about getting up there in time to see at least two of the four courses we would be playing in the tournament. I was able to leave early Friday morning and had a chance to play Keriakes and Hobson Grove. I hit an ace in practice on hole 1 at Keriakes. This makes the 4th state that I have aced in the first time I have played there.
The first round didn't start according to plan. It was on Hobson Grove, a tight woods course that has plenty of opportunities to shoot low. I struggled to make the birdies I needed in the better than expected weather and finished with a 53. This left me with lots of work to do to work my way up the leaderboard. The next round was at the long and open Ephram White. I had the box on our first hole and stepped up and threw a Roc straight into the chains 300' away. I birdied the next hole to open -3 after 2 holes. I ended up giving up too many bogey strokes along with 4 OB strokes that cost me a hot score but I still finished with a 52, not bad considering I was playing blind and part of the round was rainy and windy.
Still, I knew I needed to shoot two solid scores on Sunday to get back into the cash. The 3rd round was at Keriakes, my personal favorite out of the four parks. I started with a par and a double bogey, not what I needed. With the conditions being cold and windy (there was even a few snowflakes to be seen), I knew I would still be fine if I got back under. I played fairly well after that besides too many missed short putts and finished with a 52. I was now in position to get some cash. The final round was the windiest round we played all weekend. I struggled to find the consistency I need at Lover's Lane, finishing with a 55. I drove well in the wind but had three 3 putts and one 4 putt, all from within 35', which pretty much eliminated me from cash despite the six birdies I made on the other holes. I ended up two strokes out of cash and the only money I got was from my ace. Overall, it was a great learning experience even though I was dissapointed in the consistency of my play. I will be back next year with more confidence on the four courses. It was awesome to meet some new people and also see familar faces I hadn't seen in a while. This was a great National Tour warmup for me and I look forward to making it out to some of the other National Tours this season that I have never played.
