Sounds like my kind of fun Robbie! Keep it going and make the most of the journey! It's kind of a dream vacation if you remember to take full advantage of the trip!
I've taken a little break from traveling, and have settled into the Quad Cities on the Illinois side of the Mississippi. It's only a two and a half hour drive to Des Moines, Iowa to see my family, so I feel right at home!
I've continuued to play tournaments, but I've had to limit it to a 6hour window, and I'm really enjoying it. As it turns out the Midwest golf scene is starting to take hold, the strong Amateurs have joined the Open division ranks, and the Ams from a couple years back are cashing and winning tournaments ( Adam Olsen, Chase Roberts, Alan Wagner, Mike Robinson). It's fun helping those guys take it to the next level!
This weekend Doug Peyton (Iowa's best TD) ran the first ever Corridor Classic, using four different courses (Shaver AM / Legion PM) in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, followed by (Turkey Creek AM / Suar Bottom PM). Sugar Bottom and Turkey Creek have been getting the restoration treatment by the local club with the battery pack of Kevin Stibal leading the way! An Iowa Legend, Jeff Harper continues to play Open knocking down lazer lined putts and booming hyzers - it's just fun to watch! Turkey Creek was redesigned and quickly moved into my favorite must play courses in Iowa. Reminds me of the Pyramids course at Marshall Street, but a little longer in places.
Legion Park in Marion, Iowa is a perennial favorite among the Iowa traveling players, every year we look foreward to playing it, the course has elevation changes, scoring opportunities, par 4's, woods, and water! A must play in Iowa! Now Shaver on the other hand is just plain dangerous. It turns out that it was designed by someone with very little disc golf experience, and wanted it to be anti-pro, which meant that the course has very few "fairways". Some holes were fun, but there's usually a clearer route to the group in front of you than there is to the basket. Several tee pads were 10-50ft off the fairway of the 340ft hole you just played - at about 275ft from that tee pad. Extreme Golf!
Off to WORLDS next! Followed by the Marshall Street Experience!!
check out the 2006 MSDGC DVD! It ROCS!
