Hours upon arriving in Portland last week, Jay rallied troops from as far as Corvallis for a ladies round. We decided to meet up at Pier Park to squeak in a round before dark. The sun was shining and the weather was beautiful all day up until we got to the course. Rain clouds were predicted and started to drift right in at 5. We all met up on hole 1 with a gang of 7 disc golfing chicks. It was my first time meeting them face to face, but I am friends with most of them via the “discgolfeR.us” site. As always it’s great to meet women disc golfers especially ones from the other side of the country. I was truly honored that they all made the trip up to play a round with me.

After letting many groups play through, we finally got on our way. It wasn’t about showing off. It wasn’t about getting the least amount of throws. It was about being with other disc golfing women sharing a hobby that we all love. Even though we didn’t know eachother, it’s a connection as soon as your start rippin drives. Most of them were still in their first couple of years playing, but you can tell they’ve got the bug like the rest of us.
As we all teed off on hole 2, Teresa “Sassy-freakin-licious” Bellinger met up with us to make an even 8. I have known Teresa for years from back in our Amateur days. She definitely brought the laughter and interesting stories. :o)
We made it through 10 holes before it finally got too dark to see the baskets. Since we had to take advantage of all these disc golfin girls in one spot, we decided to grab some dinner in downtown Portland. We all met up at Kel’s, an irish pub with great food and great beer choices. The one man band started up and we decided that we should leave.
Our next stop was Teresa’s pick, Voodoo Donuts. It was just a block or so away so the gang of us walked there. This place had the craziest variety of donuts that you could imagine. The variety ranged from explicit donuts to Coco puffs and Oreo covered. There were so many to choose from, so I asked the girl behind the counter which one she recommends. Out of the ones she listed I chose the maple and bacon donut. Don’t make that face! It was surprisingly delicious!!

After pounding down our donuts, we all parted our ways for the night.
It was really great to get together with all those disc golf passionate women. When I am out on tour, I am usually playing tournaments with the same Pro women every weekend. Because many of the tournaments I play are NTs or Pro only, it’s not too often I cross paths with the women that are just beginning. I just want to thank the ladies; Shavonne, Heidi, Rebecca, Teresa, Chris and the 2 Amanda’s for coming out! I had a lot of fun! You are all great players with great spirits out on the course, Keep it up! Northwest chicks rock!
