Winter Warmth Tour 2008 - Chris Sprague

The Winter Warmth Tour is in my opinion the best stretch of the year, your fresh and excited for the season and the weather is summer like! I'm talking about the South West; Pasadena, Monterey, Vegas, Phoenix, Long Beach (and in years past Arcata, CA Bigfoot and Orangevale St Pats) I hit the road on Feb. 11th and will fly back on March 17th. Can't wait to get back home! I can't imagine trying to pull off 8 months straight like 2006. It's a MOUNTAIN of a journey!!

Player's Cup and more...

team huk keepin' it real after the first round.  way to start off boys.  nate, avery, and brinster are all on the lead card after day 1.  huk girl Val stayin in contention.

Wish i was down there too, but with all that we have going on, i haven't been able to play much.  workin' workin' workin'.....all for the good of LOVE.   steve and I are working so hard to get our house done so that we can move in by the New Years.   And, we are also planning our wedding, which will be in Warwick, NY April 25th. so for now, i'm playing disc golf in my dreams.

However, i had a GREAT time playing in September at the Eric Yetter and Sugarbush Open in VT!   then we we're off to USDGC, where i was steve's caddie for the 7th year in a row....he finished tied for 7th.  one of the funnest weeks of disc golf each year.  it was a thrill to watch brinster battle the course.

Worlds Baby!

A month ago I injured  my pectoral muscle at the Canadian Open just before the final nine.  It was painful but I decided to play the finals anyway and although I finished second I lost more then I gained.   The injury side-lined me for the next couple of weeks which included the Skylands Classic (at Warwick my home course), Pittsburgh and the Brent Hambrick.  I planned on attending all of them especially since I've done very well at each of them in the past.  It was now three weeks and my injury wasn't getting much better.  I was starting to come to the realization that I might not  be able to play for a long time.  But then one day I forced myself to start throwing. I started off throwing only  50ft,  then 100ft, once the pain started, i would stop.  I went out every other day and tried to add 25ft or 50 ft. each day.  Now I'm up to 350ft and I'm basically pain free on hyzer shots.  Sooo I said I'm going to Worlds baby!  Its interesting because I've never been side-lined because of an injury.  Now I have such an appreciation for being able to play at all.  When I go to the course now I'm just happy to be playing.  Its a great feeling and hopefully that kind of attitude can lead me to a healthy and sucessful worlds.  See you on the course- steve

AM Worlds 2007

Our fearless Huk Leader is out here in the midwest mounting an impressive finish to the 2007 AM Worlds in Milwaukee, WI!  Jay Harbour has shot three straight rounds above his player rating!
~Your only 8 strokes back Jay, Keep it going!!!!~
Congrats to Iowan Alan Wagner!  He's currently tied for 1st going into the semi-Finals!  Wow, another huge showing for the Iowa UP-N-COMERS!!!!!!!
Now off to practice for my Worlds run!!

The Summer Tour is well on its way..

Its been a great couple of months on the road..

Starting in May i won my first National Tour in Los Angeles and to top it off i finally turned 21! It was a great tournament! Surrounded by great friends and celebrated to the max!

We then traveled up to Grass Valley to play Motherlode.. The strong womens division consisted of only Burl, Kathy Manley, and I.. but as usual it was a battle until the end. Burl and I tied, but Burl pulled out strong in the Rock Paper Scissors and got the points for the tourney.

Next stop was Masters Cup in Santa Cruz. I love coming here every year. You've got the great DeLa course, the beach, and Tacos Moreno! What more could you ask for? We camped out at the Hardings house, and had a blast every night. They ended up housing about 10 people for the weekend, definately the place to be that weekend. I struggled with my putting but i kept my mental game together, and tried to maintain. When playing at DeLa you can have all the skill in the world, but when it comes down to the cliffs, roots, and elevation much luck is needed. You DO NOT want to get DeLa-ed. I had some trouble during my last few holes of the tournament and ended up taking 4th.

Dario's Mid-West Tour

This seems like the best way I can think to let everyone know what I've got goin on here in the Mid-West.

I flew into to the very hot St. Louis, MO last night around 11:45 pm. I'm staying with Dave McCormack at his pretty sweet little bachelor pad but not the whole month I'm here. Justin Bunnell is on his way over to pick me up for a trek to Kansas City for the Kansas City Wide Open.

I will keep you informed on the progress of my tour. I have four tournaments on the schedule, as well as some factory/shop time for Gateway.

Chattanooga, TN Disc Golf! Chris Sprague

I left Geoff Bennett with Gateway Team member Chris Boro somewhere in Georgia. They were heading to the Lexington Open, and I was headed home. On my way to Chattanooga, I received a call from Geoff asking where some courses were along Interstate 75. So I took a minute to search the directory, and found a nice entry for "The Sinks" Disc Golf course in Chattanooga, TN. I had no plans on stopping, but something caused me to hit the exit to the course.

What an excellent decision!

The parking lot was starting to fill up @ 1pm on a Monday! After talking to a few locals (looking for the ONE) I finally found him. Shan Trotter pulled up and within minutes was trying to convert me over to the "dark side, Wizards and Warlocks". I declined to change, explaining my sponsorship with Innova Champion. To my surprise he knew me because he had found a TeeRex I had lost, unfortunately he had given to a new player (it's for the cause) Well, it turned out that Shan was the guy to meet, he was sponsored by Dynamic Discs (Jeremy Rusco) and was an up and coming player himself.

Good Energy in Bowling Green!

After a short break in Iowa, it was back out on the road!

Bowling Green has enjoyed a reputation as one of Disc Golf's premier events, and they certainly didn't disappoint! A high turnout coupled with a solid payout, made for an awesome tournament on equally awesome courses!

I met up with Pete Wade #21761(who gave me a safe place to sleep in Grand Junction, CO earlier in the month - see my Wyoming Blizzard entry) and Mike Durco #13559(psycho discs) from Grand Rapids, MI. I've mentioned previously what a great guy Pete is, and it's no wonder why Durco and Pete kick it at tournaments. These two were "off the hook" fun, and brought "GOOD ENERGY" to our tournament experience. And after a Long Tour last year - "GOOD ENERGY" is far more important than... well "BAD ENERGY"!

Blowing Green...

Just played in Bowling Green, Kentucky this past weekend, and what a time!

Weather reports for the weekend expected cold temps with RAIN, RAIN, and more RAIN.. but nevertheless through rain, sun, snow, and wind.. (well prepared) Disc Golfers from all over the US came to play!

We drove through plenty of storms on Thursday to arrive in the sun in Bowling Green. The horrible weather even held off for us during our rounds on Saturday. But come Sunday the cold, rain and snow mix hit us.. Dressed for the weather we all managed to survive..

I finished our last round at Keriakes Park in 4th place, 2 strokes back of 3rd.  We drove to Lovers Lane where the final 9 would be starting soon, and as everyone had said, the top 4 men, and top 3 women would be playing. Reading through the booklet we got in our players package they printed that the top 4 women would be featured in the showcase. I brought it up to the TD and WHAMO- I'm still playing for my place. So i stepped up to the tee following Des Reading, Angela Tshiggfrie, and Burl.
