LAB BIO:
On the Course:
Any pre-round rituals? I like to listen to music on the way to the course that will pump me up and get me in a competitive mind frame. I like to get there around an hour before tee time. I generally like to throw in a field if possible in order to throw a maximum number of shots to loosen up. After I feel loose I go find a basket and work on a variety of putts (hyzer, anhyzer, nose up, nose down) and stances. When the two minute warning sounds, I sit down on my hukSit stool and get my mind focused on what I need to do to be successful.
What has enabled you to achieve success in the sport? I feel that I can be successful against quality competition because have the distance to compete on open courses as well as the control to do well on the wooded courses I typically play in North Carolina.
How do you prepare for a tournament? I don’t really like to play the course the tournament is being held on right before the tournament as long as I know the course and what type of shots I need to execute. I try to avoid having expectations as far as a particular score for each round because every round is different. Instead I try to play each shot one at a time and each hole in the fewest throws. What are your goals for the 2007 season? -cash at every tournament -win at least one event -play a NT that I haven’t ever played -play in a state I haven’t ever played in -get my rating above 1000 -continue to improve the weak areas in my game -improve my mindset and eliminate any negative reactions during rounds Pet peeves? Cut-throughs, discs an inch out of bounds, roll aways Have you added any new throws or trick shots over the off season? I have been working on my sidearm a lot lately for those situations where the slope of the green/landing zone favors them or where a typical anhyzer will not get close enough. Mike Hofmann from Raleigh has one of the best control sidearms I have ever seen and his style is one I try to adopt. What discs will you be huckin' this year? I stick to the basics as far as discs, meaning I don’t throw many of the new high speed drivers. I don’t throw any discs that aren’t replaceable.
Words of huck wisdom for new players? For new players I would say find some pros to watch and try to emulate their technique. Don’t be overly concerned with distance. Learn the flight of your discs and keep a positive mental attitude. Learn to take the good with the bad.
Off the Course:
What do you do when you're not out huckin'? I enjoy hanging out with friends in my spare time. I also play other sports, particularly basketball and skiing. Who are your role models? Brian Schweberger is one of my role models because of his friendly personality on and off the course. His thumber is also something I try to emulate. What motivates you? I am motivated to work harder because I know my competition is and because I want to be the best I can be. Academic pursuits? I am a freshman at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. I am a business major and hope to graduate and get a job that will allow me some flexibility to continue to play disc golf competitively. Personal pursuits? Dreams? Life goals? I want to be happy and financially stable
HUCK FAVS:
All time favorite disc? My favorite all time disc would have to be a Teebird. I can throw them on long shots and still control them like a midrange. Favorite throw? My favorite shot would have be a low straight shot. Favorite trick shot? Favorite huck laboratory? My favorite courses are Warwick, New York and Rennaisance Gold in Charlotte NC. I look forward to The Dogwood Crosstown Classic in Raleigh as well as Worlds and whatever National Tours I can attend this year. Favorite post round pleasure? I like to put on a fresh huk lab shirt after play is over in preparation for awards.
